Happy JIN Day

BIRTHDAY CAFÉS

It was my first time in South Korea and I knew I’ll have too many firsts for the trip. One of these was when I went café-hopping with fellow armys on Seokjin’s birthday.

Celebrator: 김석진 Kim Seok Jin
Birth Date: 1992.12.04
Birth Place: Gwacheon, South Korea
Also known as: Worldwide Handsome

Fans of kpop bands celebrate our idols’ birthdays in different ways and holding café events is among the popular ones. It is widely practiced in Korea and Japan. I tried to reach out to fellow armys on Twitter and asked about the possible locations of the cafes.

On that day, I wore the shirt my American co-army friend gave me (which was a matching shirt with hers and another friend that they wore during the BTS Chicago concert in 2018). Also, I met a few fellow armys and started our café hopping at around 2pm KST.

&gather café
Location: 용산구 한남동 96-3, 서울시 (Yongsan-gu, Hannam-dong 96-3, Seoul, South Korea)

Seems familiar? This is where one of the 달려라 방탄 (Run BTS) episode was shot where they made drinks. The café has a metal wire figures of all the members displayed inside. Of course, we didn’t miss the chance to take a photo on the same wall where Taehyungie and Hobi took theirs too.

Andys Coffee
Location: 마포구 월드 컵로 1길43서울시 (1-43 World Cup, Mapo-gu, Seoul, South Korea)

We took the subway to get to Hongdae where the second coffee shop is located. We were so lucky to get some photocards from the k-armys who went there. The place also has a TV where a birthday greeting for Seokjin was played.

Afternoon Café
Location: 마포구 동교동 176-9, 서울시 (176-9, Donggyo-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, South Korea)

Just a few steps away was our third stop. The cafe itself has a cozy lazy Sunday afternoon vibe. The fans put up some photos of Jin all over the café.

Ediya Coffee
Location: 351-5, Seogyo-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul

Wanting to make the most out of our day, we decided to go on our 4th café which was a few blocks away from the last one. A nice walk to finish our drinks gave us more time know more about each other.

와디지 (Wadiz) Café
Location: 366-12, Hapjeong-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul

To end our café tour, a nice long walk led us to, for me, was the cutest of all. There were lots of fans there and some brought cake and stuff to decorate the place. It was truly an army – Jin stan – haven.

The ahjumma at the counter was very nice too..

Pink House (VT)
Location: 서울특별시 마포구 와우산로29가길 84 (서교동) (84, Wausan-ro 29ga-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul)

One of my new friend who studies in Seoul brought us to the VT Pink House but unfortunately, the café was closed for renovation. Still, we got a few snaps of BTS and BT21 cut outs outside.

BT21 Hongdae
Location: 141, Yanghwa-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul

On our way to Wadiz Cafe (our last coffee shop) we stopped by the BT21 Line Friends Hongdae Branch. The store was huge and has lots of cutie merchandise. You'll surely find something you'll want to buy as a souvenir. After all, these cuties are our boys' babies, right?

Oh! This huge bear will greet you as you enter the store so make sure to line up and take a few pictures with him.

HUGE (AND EXPENSIVE) BIRTHDAY ADS

On my way to Seoul Museum of Art on the first half of my day, it happened that I got on the subway train where (some) k-armys paid for to put the Love Yourself sticker on that whole train carrier (Seoul Subway Line 2). There were the boys’ photos all over the pink carrier and greetings for Jin and Tae.

One of my goals during the trip was to take pictures and/or videos of the huge billboards/ads the famous fansites paid for the boys’ birthdays. I happened to see quite a few during my stay.

That same day, while looking for a place to exchange currencies, I looked up to a building and saw a video ad greeting for Jin! It was from the Chine armys and fansite Baidu Jin Bar. It was so fast that I had to literally wait in the cold weather outside for 15 minutes just to take a video of it. Well, it was worth it!

However, I was kind of getting frustrated already because I really wanted to see the HUGE birthday ad for Jin from his fansite A Little Braver that was played in one of the many ad screens in Hongik University Station (Line 2). It was the time I least expected when it was played while I was passing through. My vacation was about to end when I saw the ad on 10th of December.

GANGNAM BTS DOLL

The whole trip wouldn’t be complete without seeing the famous Gangnam Dolls and when would be the perfect day to visit it if not on the birthday of one and only Worldwide Handsome Kim Seokjin?

So there you have it. It was my first time to experience such kind of birthday celebration for our idol so I am looking forward to more of this!

🎂🎈🎎
