Where to Shop In Hong Kong

SHOPPING CAPITAL OF ASIA. That is what Hong Kong is basically known to many people. From high-end brands to the cheapest and budget-friendly ones, you’ll surely find what you’re looking for. If you are a beauty product lover, you better ready your wallets because the SALE items here are lit! I bought branded perfumes at 50 – 70% off in January. Imagine the savings you’ll get!

Here are just a few of the places we went to for shopping:

1.      TEMPLE STREET NIGHT MARKET

Address: Temple Street, Yau Ma Tei, Hong Kong
How to get here: (www.discoverhongkong.com)
🚇 MTR Yau Ma Tei Station, Exit C, turn onto Temple Street at Man Ming Lane; or
🚇 MTR Jordan Station, Exit A. Turn right onto Jordan Road and the take another right onto Temple Street.

Temple Street has many authentic mini restaurants on both sides. In the morning, the street is clear and can be used by the motorists. At night, it is packed with locals selling different stuff and tourists trying to buy souvenirs. Around 7 PM, you’ll see the vendors coming one-by-one and setting up their items on the street.

They sell cute souvenirs like magnets, key chains and bag tags. Decors, utensils, and other home stuff are being sold there too. If you are a Filipino like me, you’ll feel the Quiapo/Avenida vibes here. Among the markets that we’ve been to, Temple Street has the cheapest price and haggling is a thing here too!

2.      MONG KOK

Address: Tung Choi Street, Mong Kok, Kowloon
How to get here: (www.thepoortraveler.net)
🚇 Ride the MTR Tsuen Wan train to Mong Kok Station. Take the B2 or B3 exit.

Mong Kok is one of my favorite places in Hong Kong, not only because of the bright night lights that you’ll usually see in magazines, movies, and ads, but also because of the wide array of street foods that you can have.

I came to Hong Kong mainly for three things:

          🎡Disneyland
📱Instagrammable corners of the city (my IG feed will prove it)
          😋STREET FOODS!

You will be greeted by so many beauty/cosmetic and clothing shops right outside the MTR Mong Kok Station. Your eyes will feast on those shops’ big signages. You better be ready to walk A LOT with a huge crowd when visiting Mong Kok.

Since the night market is not ready yet in the afternoon (we went there after our Victoria Peak activity) we decided to try THE AUTHENTIC HONG KONG STREET FOODS and boy, I must say, my taste buds experienced circus in just one bite of this cold octopus! I thought they’re going to cook or heat it but I think they served it straight from the fridge. And no, it was a no for me 😟.

However, the bacon-wrapped sausages, cheong fun in sweet sauce and the spicy organs in a pot got my three YESes and two thumbs up! I will talk more about street foods on my next blog, so please look forward to it.

3.      LADIES NIGHT MARKET

Address: Tung Choi Street, Mong Kok, Kowloon
How to get here: (www.discoverhongkong.com)

🚇 MTR Mong Kok Station, Exit E2. Walk along Nelson Street for two blocks; or
🚍 Take bus 1, 1A, 2, 6, or 9 from Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry Pier and get off at Nelson Street.

If Temple Street has the Quiapo vibe, Ladies Night Market is Hong Kong’s Divisoria. Vendors start around 1 PM. You’ll see the crowd get larger as it gets darker since not only tourists come here but also a lot of locals.

We bought most of our souvenirs and ‘pasalubongs’ here since there are a lot more choices than in Temple Street but just like I said earlier, prices here are higher than in Temple Street. From bags, I Love Hong Kong shirts, cutie socks, stuffed toys, pens, and even shoes are sold here.

As we walked along every street, we stumbled upon a vendor who asked if I am a Filipina and I said yes. She immediately tried to speak our language to persuade me to buy her products but I didn’t give in.😜

4.      CITY GATE OUTLETS

Address: 20 Tat Tung Road, Tung Chung, Lantau, Hong Kong
How to get here: (https://www.citygateoutlets.com.hk/)

🚇 Take the MTR Tung Chung line through Interchange from Hong Kong Station, Nam Cheong Station or Lai King Station to Tung Chung Station and Citygate Outlets entrance is right at the Exit C.

If you like shopping in malls with restaurants, spa, and other stuff to try in one place, this is your to-go place. City Gate Outlets is very easy to find since it is connected to the MTR Tung Chung Station. It is the last station of the Tung Chung line where you will get off if you’ll be going to Ngong Ping 360.

This outlet offers discounted international branded items all year round. We were able to buy a pair of Nike shoes for my aunt for around PhP2,700.00 only ($53.00).

5.      TSIM SHA TSUI

Address: Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong
How to get here:

🚇 Take the MTR Tsuen Wan Line and get off at Tsim Sha Tsui Station.

Tsim Sha Tsui houses a wide variety of shopping/pasalubong items. There were local and international brands depending on which street you are in. But what I loved the most in Tsim Sha Tsui is the NUMEROUS (yes, it’s in ALL CAPS) branches of SaSa Cosmetics. You will be able to find a branch in every corner of the area but not all branches have the same stocks as the others. I was able to find the only perfume I want in this world (so far) in this particular branch somewhere but was not able to buy another one from the other branch. Moral of the story: If you want it that bad, JUST BUY IT!

6.      SOHO, CENTRAL, ADMIRALTY

How to get here:

          Admiralty:
🚇 Take the MTR Island Line, MTR Tsuen Wan Line or MTR South Island Line and get off at Admiralty Station.
🚍 There is a bus terminus stretching across the length of Admiralty that can be reached from exits B, C2 and D. These buses connect to many different parts of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories.

          Central:
🚇 Take the MTR Island Line or MTR Tsuen Wan Line and get off at Central Station.

LUXURIOUS! It is one word to describe this shopping side of Hong Kong. If you’re feeling like a celebrity and has the bucks to spend, shop your way to SoHo, Central District and Admiralty. I found every high-end brand I know there, even those that I haven’t heard of, and brands that I’m not sure how to pronounce.

So there you have it! I hope this blog will help you decide where to shop in Hong Kong. If you have more shopping streets/places in mind, please feel free to share it on the comments section.
